Singapore – New Picture Gallery

Downtown Singapore

After my trip to Brisbane, Australia I stopped over in Singapore for three days. This was my first visit to Asia and I admittedly was a bit anxious about finding my whereabouts in a society which alphabet I cannot even read. I quickly lost that anxiety after realizing that Singapore is extremely adapted to people from all around the world. While you do find traditional goods and cuisine from all over Asia, there is almost always some way of getting around the language barrier by simply speaking English and pointing.  I found Singapore to be a society of extreme differences between traditions, traditional lifestyle, and the modern, tech-savvy style of today. Ultra modern architecture can be found right next to shabby corner soup kitchens (that serve absolutely delicious food). All in all, Singapore might be the perfect gateway drug to Asia. The city is modern enough to not freak first time visitors out, it is easy to get along, and give you an insight into the stunning diversity of Asian cultures. The food alone is well worth the visit. While I stayed  clear of ‘uncommon’ dishes like fish head soup and the likes, I cannot say that I have eaten better on any of my trips. But remember to bring very light clothes and an umbrella – it is enormously humid and when it rains, it pours! In case you find yourself in the city with a thunderstorm approaching, I can recommend the Asian Civilisation Museum.

Anyways, my favorite pictures of this trip can by seen in the usual place. Enjoy.

More Pictures from Brisbane, Australia – Koalas

I added some more picture to the Brisbane, Australia portfolio. These are picture taken at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It is a beautiful place to see some of the indigenous animals of Australia. While the place focusses on breeding and caring for koalas, the sactuare is also home to various other animals such as dingos, tasmanian devils, various reptiles and bird, as well as the evolutionary quite peculiar platypus (it’s an egg laying mammal). I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to have the inevitable koala hugging picture taken…

New Picture Gallery: Brisbane, Australia

Again, it took me quite a while to upload these picture. I visit a friend and collegue in Brisbane, Australia last year to discuss her project. Brisbane turned out to be a beautiful city, the weather was delightful, so I was able to take some pictures. The pictures have been added to my gallery page as usual.

New picture gallery: Picture from my trip to Istanbul, Turkey

Went on another business trip, attending another biotechnology conference this time in Istanbul, Turkey. For several reason, my attendance at the conference was rather limited. First, the defense of my doctoral thesis was scheduled for right after the conference, so my mind was simply somewhere else. Second, the organization of the conference was simply put disastrous. Third reason: city and weather were gorgeous. You can see the entire gallery at the usual place. Flo was also with us, so you can see his photographic take on the location in his gallery.
